If you like unique crafts, this is the craft for you. I don’t know who decided to first stamp with an apple, but it’s surprisingly fun and different (kind of like rock painting). I was also surprised how well the apple made a great stamp. The juices from the apple seemed to help it stamp nicely. In this post you will learn all about how to do an apple stamping craft and how you can make several different crafts with them.
What Is Apple Stamping?
Apple stamping is exactly as it sounds. You use an apple as your stamp. You cut an apple in half, dip it in some paint, and stamp it on paper. It’s easy, it’s simple, and it’s fun.
What Age Is This Activity Good For?
When I first stumbled upon this craft, I thought it was geared more for preschoolers, but there are so many unique ways you can stamp with an apple, that it actually was fun for my 10 year-old as well. There is a creativity component to it. I would say this is fun for any age (because I had fun too), but 3-10 is also pretty accurate.

Supplies Needed
The most basic supplies that you need are:
- An apple
- Knife
- Paper – any paper will do! I used copy paper.
- Paint – I used acrylic and just a tempura washable paint. Watercolors would not work.
- Paintbrush (optional)
- Water
- Paper plate or paint palette
- Paper towels
- Fork (optional)
If you want to get creative with some of your stamping, you could also have some of these supplies:
- Pipe cleaners
- Googly eyes – self-adhesive are the best
- Tree template (download for free)
- Marker
- Construction paper
How To Do an Apple Stamping or Painting Craft Activity
- Prepare your apple. Do this by cutting it in half. If you want to make a handle, cut two slits on the curved side of the apple as shown in the picture. I preferred it this way. If you don’t want a handle, you can stick a knife in it, and that will be your handle.
- Prepare your paint onto a paper plate. There are two ways you can apply paint to your apple. You can dunk it straight into the paint, or use a paintbrush to paint it on. So, prepare your paint accordingly. I did both ways, and I felt like they both worked great.
- Prepare your apple by plopping it into the paint or painting onto the apple with a paintbrush. You need to kind of glop it on, so you have enough paint to make the stamp.
- Press the apple stamp onto your paper. I applied quite a bit of pressure. I felt like it looked nicer. And sometimes my second stamp looked even nicer.
- Pick up the apple and now you have a cool apple stamp. Sometimes it won’t stamp perfectly, so you can fill it in with a paintbrush.
- You can stamp again with the same apple and use different colors. The paint wipes off the apple pretty easily, and whatever paint is absorbed into the apple, doesn’t really come off in the next stamp. So, wipe it with a paper towel, dip it in another color, and stamp again.
There are several ways you can get creative with stamping. One way is to put different colors on it or paint designs onto the apple, and then place it on the paper.
Apple Stamping Pumpkin Craft Example
Another fun way to be creative with apple stamping is to make a pumpkin! I mean, pumpkins basically have the same shape as an apple.
Do this by stamping your apple in orange paint. After the paint dries, add a face, a stem, and a leaf. This is where the extra supplies come in. You could use googly eyes for the eyes, or cut out construction paper for the face. You could also cut up some pipe cleaners for the stem and leaf.
Apple Stamping Tree Example
Make a fun stamping tree with the apples. Do this by drawing with markers or painting a tree onto your paper. You can also download my free tree template here, which you can paint or color. Once your tree is dry, stamp apples of all different colors all over it.
This makes a perfect fall activity.
Apple Stamping Faces Example
You could also be creative with your apples and make fun faces on them. You can do this with paint, markers, construction paper, or googly eyes. Let your creativity flow.
