Why I Love This Coffee Filter Turkeys Craft

Honestly, I love making anything with coffee filters. They are cheap and so easy to work with. My favorite part about these turkeys is blending the colors on the coffee filter. It is so pretty and so satisfying. You could make these turkeys any color you want.

How To Make Coffee Filter Turkeys

These are so simple and easy to make. Here’s a list of what you’ll need.

Materials

Scissors, markers, dropper, and coffee filter turkey template all laying on a paper plate.

Step 1

Color your coffee filters using the washable markers. You want washable markers because they bleed better, and you need them to bleed. You can color the filters any color and any design. Just keep in mind that they will be blending together.

Step 2

Place your coffee filter on a paper plate (or anything that can contain the water). Using your dropper or syringe, drip water onto the coffee filter, so that the colors bleed and blend. It doesn’t take a lot. If you get it too wet, you could take all the color out, so drip a few drops then watch what it does.

Step 3

Your coffee filter needs to be completely dry before you can handle it, otherwise it’s just going to rip. One way to dry it faster is to place it in the oven on a cookie sheet for a few minutes at 220 degrees. While it’s drying, you’ll want to make your turkey.

Step 4

The turkey can be made in two different ways. You can get a clothespin and color a turkey face on it, or you can print out the turkey template, color it, and cut it out.

Step 5

Once the filters are dry, clothes pin them together, or glue them to the turkey. This step is where you can get really creative. You can cut up your filters into strips and then glue them beside each other. You can also fold them in a cute way. Use your best imagination. I used a glue stick, and it worked really well. Coffee filters are easy to glue.

What Is The Best Age For Making Coffee Filter Turkeys?

I had fun making this craft, so really, any age would enjoy it. But I would say ages 5-10 would enjoy it best. It might be a little hard for younger kids, but they could definitely do it with some help. And if you have young kids and teenagers, then you can definitely get them both involved with each other and they would have fun.
