How to do Easy Painting with Straws for Kids
Painting with straws is an easy, fun activity that boost kids creativity, and you probably have all the supplies on hand.
Painting with Straws
I can’t tell you how many times per week my kids ask me to paint. They love it. I think most kids do. So, I’m always trying to come up with easy and cheap ways to paint. It’s a fun way to spend some time together without 30 minute of prep work and clean up.
Painting with straws was a really fun painting activity that a kid probably made up because it’s what kids like to do ALL the time: Blow in their straws. I think all kids love to blow in their straws and make their drink bubble up. This is a great alternative.
Here’s how we did it.

How to do Painting with Straws
Supplies:
Straws
Paint (I use acrylics and some left over water paints I had.)
Water
Cups
Paper
Instructions:
Put a few drops of paint into a cup.
Add water. Enough so that it turns into a liquidity paint. (this is where I think water paints would come in handy.)
Using the end of a straw, dip it into the water and “flick” it onto the paper. You don’t have to really flick it, just create a few droplets from your straw onto the paper. You could also use a pipette or syringe, or even just pour a little bit onto the paper.
Using the straw, blow the puddles of paint however you like.
It makes an awesome design.

You could take it a step further and make a picture from your straw art after it dries. You could make a tree, a spit splatter, or raindrops from it and draw a picture to go along with it. They would be super cute to hang in the kid’s rooms.
Bubble Painting with Straws
Another grand idea is to use bubbles to paint with straws. It is the same set up as listed above only you apply bubble solution to the paint.
You dip your straw in the bubble paint solution, mix it up a little bit, and then try to blow bubbles onto your paper.
I’m going to be honest, my kids did not like this activity as much. The bubbles popped easily and we couldn’t really get it going. I wasn’t having much trouble, but the kids were.
It is worth a try, maybe you’ll have more luck than us. We even made homemade bubbles to use. And I used like 3 different paints/methods.
Who knew painting with straws could be so fun?
