How to Make Rice Krispie Treats with Cheerios Recipe
This recipe will show you how to make Rice Krispie Treats with Cheerios, with maybe some peanut butter and chocolate added in.
Honey Nut Cheerios
I know I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again. I have too many Cheerios in my house. We always have them on hand, and they don’t go as fast as I’d like. I just like to have a somewhat “healthy” cereal on hand for those I-don’t-want-to-cook-and-what-is-quick-to-eat nights.
I’m not a huge fan of Rice Krispie treats unless they are homemade and fresh. I love Cheerios more than Rice Krispies, so I thought I’d give it a try. Plus, I’ve seen other people do it before. We made ours slightly different with a little peanut butter and chocolate chips. They turned out super yummy and were super easy to make with my kids. They loved it!
These are great for an after school snack, or a dessert for the kids lunches. They keep really well, and everybody loves them.
Here’s how we did it.
Rice Krispie Treats with Cheerios Recipe
Ingredients:
6 c. Cheerios
3 Tablespoons of Butter
10 oz. Package of Marshmallows
1/2 c. Creamy Peanut Butter
1/2 c. Chocolate Chips
2 tsp. Vanilla
Instructions:
Spray a 9 X 13 Pan.
Melt the butter in a sauce pan.
Once butter has completely melted, slowly add in marshmallows. (I only had big marshmallows on hand that needed to be used, so I eyeballed how much I wanted/needed in the recipe. I feel like you can’t really go wrong.) Constantly stir the marshmallows until they are completely melted. Be careful because they can be easy to burn.
Stir in the Creamy Peanut Butter until it’s melted and smooth.
Pour in Vanilla.
Remove from heat.
Slowly stir in Cheerios. The mixture will slowly get hard to stir, but just move as fast as you can before it gets too hard. Another thing you can do is put the Cheerios in a big bowl and pour the marshmallow mixture over top of it and stir it in. I have also done it this way, and it works.
Once the Cheerios are fully covered in the Peanut Butter, Marshmallow mixture, let it sit for 30 seconds to 1 minute. You want the mixture to cool just slightly. Then, pour in the chocolate chips and mix in. If you mix in the chocolate chips too soon, they will melt, and you’ll be left with mixed in chocolate, which is also good, so not a terrible mistake. It just creates a different taste. I wanted mine to remain solid. If you wait too long, it will be super hard to mix.
Press the Cheerios mixture into your 9 X 13 pan. Let sit for 30 minutes to allow it to harden.
Cut and enjoy!
This recipe will keep for up to a week before it gets too hard. You can store it at room temperature, just make sure it remains covered.
We loved Rice Krispie Treats with Cheerios. I was expecting them to be good, but they were better than my expectation. We couldn’t get enough of them.

Very good. My husband said it reminded him of Reese’s peanut butter cups. I actually used mixture of Cheerios and Rice Krispies with a dab of honey bunches of oats to use up leftover cereal. We didn’t mind the chocolate melting…had mini size chips in pantry.
It does!!! That’s awesome. That is an awesome idea for when you have all those last bits of cereal left!
