11 Fun Sidewalk Chalk Ideas for Kids
Sidewalk chalk ideas to make it fun for the kids.
Sidewalk Chalk
I think sidewalk chalk is very underestimated. There are so many fun things you can do with chalk. It does not have to be one of those things where you set some chalk out and tell the kids to draw. You can make it fun so that the kids actually use their creativity and create memories.
So, buy a box of chalk, which you can find at the dollar store for super cheap, or any store really.

Stained Glass
Make a “stained glass” sidewalk by using masking tape to tape of shapes. Let the kids color in the sidewalk around the tape. Remove the tape, and you have something pretty.
ABC Activity
Write down the ABCs scrambled all over the sidewalk and then have your child find them in order. This one is great for preschoolers.
Sidewalk Corn Holes
Make circles and then have them toss bean bags from a certain distance.
Hopscotch
Make a hopscotch. This is also a great way for preschoolers to learn their numbers.
Write the Alphabet
If you have a preschooler, have him/her write the alphabet with the chalk. You could make the letter first and then have them copy you.
Trace
Trace your body on the sidewalk and then color yourself in. You could also put an object on the sidewalk and have the sun cast a shadow that you can trace.
Inspiring Messages
Write inspiring messages. You could also go on a walk with the chalk and write inspiring messages.
Make a Scene
Draw a big scene and then take pictures of yourself in it.
Car Track
Make a little track for their toy cars. You could go a step further and have them make “trees” out of sticks or weeds. Add in some Lego houses too. Have them get creative with it.
Obstacle Course
Make a obstacle course. Draw circles that they have to hop to, lines they have to run across, or spots they have to weave in and out of.
Wet Chalk
Do a little experiment and make your chalk wet and then color with it. Or wet the payment first, and then color with the chalk.
Sidewalk chalk makes for an easy prep activity and an easy clean up. You could let the kids use the hose to help clean up. If you want to make some of your own chalk, you can look at this sidewalk chalk paint recipe.
