Oh, summer. A bittersweet season. I love summer. I grew up in Texas, so I love the heat. But it still comes with it’s cons.
As parents, we always look forward to that summer break. We don’t have to wake the kids up anymore, we don’t have to stress about homework or last minute school projects. There are less activities and commitments. Plus, there are tons of things to do in the summer: vacations, swimming, hiking, outdoor parties, and the list goes on.
However, summer can also be daunting. You have your kids home from school 24/7. Now, don’t get me wrong, we love our kids, but you can only take so many days of the back-to-back chaos. It’s the constant bickering, the talking back, the too much screen time killing brain cells, and the too hot days where no one wants to play outside that can just chap my hide. You know what I mean?
I am a manic list maker. And I believe a good list or system for the summer can make your summer a whole lot smoother. One easy way you can cut down on bickering, screen time, and chaos is with a Summer Survival Kit for Moms up your sleeve. Let’s get started reviewing what that is and why you might want it.
What Is a Summer Survival Kit?
Only everything you need to make your summer a success! Have you ever thought to yourself: “If I only had ____ this would be a lot easier”?
Well, the summer survival kit for moms fills in that blank. It’s a kit that includes the activities, routines, and charts you need to help your whole household thrive during the summer! It’s the perfect item to have in your back pocket when you need a quick idea or activity. You can use the whole kit and implement an easy system or use the parts you need.

Each section comes with printables to help you master the concepts and ideas taught in each section.
Summer Survival Kit Ideas List for Moms To Use With Their Kids
Below are several ideas for what moms should have in their Summer Survival Kit to help them create a successful summer break! Please note, you can purchase a lot of these ideas in my shop separately. Or, you can get the entire Summer Survival Kit that includes it all for one low cost!
1 – Goals
First, you have to find out what you want out of your summer. What are your priorities? At the end of the summer, what do want to have accomplished? Is it keeping the kids from going to the ER or is it making memories through adventures or activities? What do you want out of summer?
This will set the tone for your summer once you can narrow it down. Then, I would also sit down with your kids and find out what they want from the summer and have them set goals. You can download my Summer Goal Sheets & Kids Summer Goal Sheets for free!
2 – Routines
Establish a good routine. It’s best to decide this at the beginning of the summer, and then discuss it as a family so you set the right expectations. The Summer Survival Kit has a list of kids routines and instructions for how to create your own.
3 – Schedule
Create a summer schedule for kids, but know that just because you’ve made one doesn’t mean it can’t be flexible. You do not have to stick to the same schedule every day. Keeping a basic one helps you accomplish your goals and makes everyone happy. You can use this Summer Planner to help.
4 – Chores and Charts
Who doesn’t love a good chart? There are so many different types of charts out there. I like to see charts as just another activity. Most kids love crossing things off a list and finishing a chart to win a prize.
Summer is a perfect time for kids to help out around the house. And reward charts are perfect to help the reach goals and stay on track. The survival kit is great at showing how you can include chores in your summer without any pushback.
5 – Screen Time Charts
Set goals as a family on what screen time should look like in your house, and then stick to it. You could also have your kids earn screen time. Screen time charts are perfect for that!
6 – Planning Food
One of the things I dread about summer is having to feed everyone! It can get exhausting figuring out what to eat each day and doing it 3xs a day. Use the lunch and snack planner or meal time planning sheets to take the stress out of planning meals.
7 – Travel Planner
Make travel easier by planning for it. Sometimes it’s hard to know what to plan or how to plan for things. Use the travel planner to take the guess work out of it and just make it simple.
8 – 60 Summer Activities
My favorite part of summer is making it fun for everyone. And there are tons of ways to do that. You just need the right ideas, and you need a list of all the good ideas. The Summer Activities Binder includes over 60 different ideas for how to create fun during the summer.
It’s broken up into types of activities such as independent, some prep work, and activities that require participation from mom. If you need some quiet time, have the kids do an independent activity. If you want to create some memories with them, create a fun activity. It has everything you need to just have fun together or alone.
9 – 30 days of Summer Outings
I can’t be cooped up in the house for too long or I go crazy. I think my kids are the same. But it can be pretty costly to go out and do something each day, so look for the cheap and free things in your area. And don’t underestimate parks!
Try to get out at least once a day or try not to have more than 1-2 days a week where you’re just staying at home all day. If you are on a budget the 30 days of Summer outings can help you get out for only $10 or less a day. It includes a great detailed list.
10 – 30 Days of Activities Planner
One good way of planning activities out for the summer is to get together as a family and write down all the activities you could do. Put all your ideas on this list, even if you think it’s dumb and even if you don’t think it will happen. Next, review the list and make a goal of completing at least 30 of them. Do them over the next 30 days or spread them out. It makes summer fun and it gives kids something to look forward to.
In the 30 days of activities planner you get summer at glance. It includes 30 days of activities with 5 different ideas each day that are categorized by independent activities, a summer outing, a mommy and me activity, a chore, and an educational activity. You are sure to never run out of ideas!
11 – Boredom Busting Activities
Who hates hearing “I’m bored” all day? This girl! That’s why you can make a boredom busting jar.
Cut up all the activities and put them in a jar. When you hear I’m bored, have the kids draw from the jar. Almost all of the activities in my boredom busting jar are independent. You don’t have to entertain your kids all day, and these activities can give them tons of ideas of how to play on their own.
12 – Road Trip Activity Bundle
Make road tripping fun again! Bring all the supplies you need in this fun road trip activity bundle. There is something for all ages. And for even more help, you can check out my ideas on how to entertain young kids on a road trip.
The Summer Survival Kit ebook includes all of the printables listed above and more! With all of these combined, you can set up a simple summer system that works for you and your family!
